Resolution No. 2020-28 – Affirming the District’s Commitment to Racial Equity and Anti-Racist Policies and Procedures

At the September 15, 2020 Board meeting, the District adopted Resolution No. 2020-28 – Affirming the District’s Commitment to Racial Equity and Anti-Racist Policies and Procedures.

The current social and political climate has exacerbated the debate on race relations and, in some cases, manifested in toxic environments and relationships that undermine the very purpose of our schools: to provide equitable educational opportunities to our students so that they can fulfill their true potential, regardless of their racial or ethnic identities.

Dr. Kern Oduro, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services,, Dr. Lynne Kennedy, Executive Director of Equity and Inclusion,  and Dr. Jessica Kachaenchai, Executive Director of Instructional Development, sought input from our students, staff, parents, and community members throughout the District in virtual panel conversations – there is no better way to truly hear the wants, dreams, and demands of the communities of people and students we serve than to take the time to listen and hear their stories. The summaries of these conversations resulted directly in the actions and steps outlined in Resolution 2020-28.

The District acknowledges this resolution is the beginning of an ongoing commitment, and we look forward to partnering with you as we advance racial equity in our schools.
