ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND CAMPUS OFFICERS

 

DEFINITION:

The Assistant Director of Safety and Campus Officers, under the direction of the Superintendent or Designee, shall assist with maintaining a safe and secure environment by maintaining a high level of visibility throughout the District to protect District campuses, facilities, students, staff, and visitors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification/Experience:

Possess Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) Basic certificate, experience with incident Command Systems, and confidential investigations.

Two years successful experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.

Licenses:

First Aid and CPR certifications issued by the American Red Cross

Valid California Driver’s License (insurability under District’s liability insurance) Authorization to carry a concealed weapon

 

Desired Qualification:

Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in protective/police coursework, administration of justice or a closely related field.

Other education and/or certificates applicable to the position.

Experience in safety and security management in an educational setting.

POST Advanced or Supervisory certificate preferred.

Spanish bilingual skills

 

Knowledge of:

Local, county, state and federal safety and security procedures and practices; District organization, operations, and objectives; basic supervisory functions and methods; personnel staffing and evaluation; small and large group training development; student behavior modification strategies; non-violent intervention techniques; adolescent behavior and interpersonal relations; crowd control procedures, and property protection procedures; planning, organization, and direction of campus officers and security

activities for a school district; applicable sections of State Education Code and other federal, state, and county laws; District personnel policies, collective bargaining agreements, rules and regulations; modern office practices and equipment including, but not limited to, District computer applications.

 

Ability to:

Implement and evaluate comprehensive Districtwide safety and security programs, including the Crisis Intervention Plan and School Safety Plans; exhibit strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills; work collaboratively with others, including site administration and local law enforcement agencies; restrain and subdue violent person(s), analyze situations carefully and adopt and effective course of action; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; skilled in public speaking and presentation; conduct random checks at campuses to assess safety/security preparedness; document and file incident reports to appropriate agencies and offices; plan, organize, and administer campus officers and security activities for a school district; plan, organize; operate a two-way radio and other equipment related to safety and security, and direct the District campus safety officers in compliance with POST standards and regulations.

Campus Officer Personnel

 

ESSENTIAL & REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with District and site staff to provide students with high-quality, safe, and productive learning environments. E
  • Work daily at District campuses as assigned by the Director of Safety and Campus Officers to assist with the execution of safety operations and procedures. E
  • Assist in supervising daily operations and training of Campus Officers and safety personnel. E
  • Provide support and direction to Campus Officers and administration. E
  • Implement programs designed to increase safety and decrease violence. E
  • Assist with daily operations of Campus Officers. E
  • Serve with Director as a liaison with local law enforcement agencies in all matters related to school safety. E
  • Assist with developing, coordinating, and implementing operational or safety plans for special events. E
  • Work with Director of Safety and Campus Officers, Assistant Superintendents, or Designee to conduct, manage, and review reports for internal investigations. E
  • Provide information/data for internal reports and communication. E
  • Assist with mandated safety and security audits of campuses and facilities. E
  • Assist in working with sites and law enforcement to coordinate drills and exercises with outside agencies. E
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoor/outdoor environment; subject to constant interruptions; may be exposed to communicable disease and anti-social behavior; prolonged periods at a computer terminal.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate modern office equipment; drive a vehicle; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; carrying, running, pushing/pulling, bending at waist, kneeling, stooping, or crouching; ability to read a variety of materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information; reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

At the discretion of the Superintendent, this position may be assigned to classified or certificated personnel who possess the knowledge and skills necessary for job performance.

 

SALARY:

Range P; $150,923 - $173,566 (3 Steps)

           

WORK YEAR:

222 days
